A symposium on the recent research undertaken into Rewi Alley, the man and his work, is planned as part of the 120th Anniversary Commemorations of Rewi’s birth, and will be hosted by the Confucius Institute on Friday 1st December 2017 at the University of Canterbury.
Objectives:
- An opportunity for the exchange of recent research being undertaken by different people and organisations in both China and New Zealand
- A major focus for the commemorations in December 2017 besides the events at Canterbury sites associated with Rewi
- A major reason for top level attendees to come from China and for support at Provincial and National Chinese Government levels
- Opportunities for the promotion and publicity for the research presented
Each speaker will develop and prepare a paper in both English and Mandarin for circulation to attendees, with their actual presentations limited to a 15 minute summary of the top highlights, followed by a number of panel discussions.
